MISS BETHEL F. HAIMANOT

To respect our education is to honour our experience. We are the financial platform!

Who am I?

My name is Bethel and I am a psychology undergraduate student. I was born in Ethiopia where I spent 7 years in the capital city Addis Ababa before I migrated to the United Kingdom with my family. In the thirteen years that I have lived here in the UK, I have spent three of those years studying at the University of Hertfordshire.

Why should you vote for me?

I can relate with you in different ways. I have the drive to achieve the changes you look to see, and to also plant a seed of progress for our next student trustee. (That rhymes :D)  I believe that I can stand as your student trustee because …

  1. The course that I study has really helped me to understand the struggles that students experience through the transitions we make when we get to University.
  2. My personal history of immigration will allow me to relate to the ethnic minority of our University and it will also create a bigger network between the home students and our international students.
  3. My years at the University of Hertfordshire have been experienced differently. I have lived on both off and on campus accommodations and I have also spent a year commuting. My student experience from those three years can be relatable to many of you, and it will be a common ground for myself and every student that I will represent.

What can I do for you?

My priories will be:

1. To identify the interests, issues and ideas of every student

I aim to do this by:

  1. Introducing regular forums
  2. Making sure several locations on campus are equipped for general comments and complaints
  3. Supporting the Democracy and Services in providing services such as student friendly transport that will benefit the students

2. To present equal part-time job opportunities on campus for every applicant and to increase work experience opportunities for students

I aim to do this by:

  1. Introducing any additional opportunities that can be made available to students
  2. Look over the interests of students alongside the budgets and financial planning of our Student Union office
  3. Working with different professions within the University to introduce "Work Shadowing" as an common and regular opportunity for students

3. To make sure our student experience is valued

I aim to do this by:

  1. Making sure there are events on campus that will be favoured by the minority as well as the majority of students
  2. Ensuring ethnic-minority orientated nights out and events are given the respected promotion and location without compromise or conflict
  3. Allowing for a greater acknowledgment of our societies
  4. Presenting more volunteering activities and more "Give it a Go" opportunities
  5. Strenghtening the link between the Hertfordshire Student Union and the University of Hertfordshire
