MISS BETHEL F. HAIMANOT

To respect our education is to honour our experience. We are the financial platform!

Who am I?

My name is Bethel and I am a psychology undergraduate student. I was born in Ethiopia where I spent 7 years in the capital city Addis Ababa before I migrated to the United Kingdom with my family. In the thirteen years that I have lived here in the UK, I have spent three of those years studying at the University of Hertfordshire.

Why should you vote for me?

I can relate with you in different ways. I have the drive to achieve the changes you look to see. I believe that I can stand for you because:

  1. The course that I study has really helped me to understand the struggles that students experience through the transitions we make when we get to University.
  2. My personal history of immigration will allow me to relate to the ethnic minority of our University, and it will also create a bigger network between the home students and our international students.
  3. My years at the University of Hertfordshire have been experienced differently. I have lived on both off and on campus accommodations and I have also spent a year commuting. My student experience from those three years can be relatable to many of you, and it will be a common ground for myself and every student that I will represent.

What can I do for you?

My priories will be:

1. To identify the interests, issues and ideas of every student

I aim to do this by:

  1. Voting on behalf of every student standing for campaigns such as “Cut the Costs” and “Bursary or Bust”
  2. Making sure several locations on campus are equipped for the comments and complaints that can be put together for a movement or a campaign
  3. Promote the importance of our affiliation with the NUS so that all students can feel free present their ideas
  4. Investigate and present the interests of the students even if they have not been yet considered by the NUS

2. To encourage the idea of new products and student friendly prices within the shops on our campus

I aim to do this by:

  1. Allowing students to speak on what products they would like to purchase
  2. Using the ideas of students to present a plan that will be acknowledged and implemented by the Student Union and the NUS

3. To make sure our student experience is valued

I aim to do this by:

  1. Promoting the services of the NUS, so that we can all be aware of the changes the government has made and the changes they plan to make. The awareness of this will potentially reduce our debts and better our student experiences
  2. Allowing for a greater acknowledgment of services or lack thereof that students would need
  3. Standing for the “Cut Costs” and “Bursary or Bust” campaigns, and present the voice of the university on such movements in a manner that would allow for change
