As your Elected Officers, we know that there has been a lot of student discussion about timetabling in the last couple of weeks, both around the timing of release and the amount of face-to-face teaching scheduled.
We are your student representatives to the University and we take your concerns seriously - our most important priority is sharing your feedback and questions with the University.
Based on what you told us, we lobbied the University to commit to three things:
- A commitment to increase in person teaching going forward, and to work to lift the current limit of 75% on room capacity as soon as practically possible.
- A commitment to ensure that the timetable is as inclusive and fit for purpose for our students as possible, and to review the current process of creating and deciding timetables.
- A commitment that full timetables will be published earlier for Semester B, preferably a week or two before classes start to allow students to efficiently plan their time and prepare for their classes.
The University has already agreed to the first two commitments, and we will continue to push for a solid commitment to the third.
As an Officer team we do believe that a more flexible and blended approach to learning going forwards will be beneficial for our diverse student population. However, ensuring that students receive adequate support and choice in their learning experience is our top priority.
