Sources of Support during Exam-Time

Exam-time can be a stressful time and it can often help to seek further support.

There are lots of people throughout the University who can help and support you. There is never a reason to feel like you are on your own and there are plenty of out-of-hours options available – should you need support when the University is closed.

The Advice & Support Centre

The Students’ Union Advice & Support Centre is open Monday-Friday, from 10 am to 4 pm, and is based in Hutton Block. You do not need to book an appointment and there is always an advisor available to sit and talk with you.

How to contact:

If you would like to contact the Advice & Support Centre, you could ring 01707 285 022 or e-mail advice@hertfordshire.su.

Mental Wellbeing & Counselling Service

The Counselling Centre is available to help any members of the University who are experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties, which interfere with them getting the most out of their time here. It is staffed by qualified and experienced counsellors, who understand the pressures of University life.

Want to make an appointment?

You can make an appointment by calling 01707 284 453, or by attending their drop-in session every weekday at 1.30pm.

The Samaritans

If you are having difficulties and need to talk to someone out of standard working hours, the Samaritans is a 24-hour service that is available to offer a listening ear and support in times of need.

How to contact:

You can contact them on 08457 909090. If you don’t feel you can talk out loud about your problems, but still need a sounding board, you can e-mail them on jo@samaritans.org and a dedicated volunteer will respond.

NHS 111

If you need out-of-hours medical help, but it is not a 999 emergency, you can call NHS 111. Your issue will be assessed, you will be advised upon what to do next and where to go in your local area if you require further treatment.
