At Hertfordshire Students’ Union we believe in creating a safe and welcoming environment for all of our students’. During the LGBT Awareness month, our LGBT+ society and the University’s Equality Office will be hosting a series of events around campus for you to take part in. We welcome all LGBT+ students, their friends and allies! Our great community has all the supports available for you to study and have fun in a safe environment.

The LGBT+ Awareness month celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT community. The month will kick off with the rainbow flag flying outside the main reception on College Lane.

This will mark the start of celebrations for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender History Month, a UK annual programme taking place in February each year, celebrating the lives and achievements of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender) community.

Screening of Moonlight

The Equality Office is screening the Oscar winning film Moonlight, which chronicles the childhood, adolescence and burgeoning adulthood of a young, African-American, gay man growing up in a rough neighbourhood of Miami.

To make room for our Valentine's’ Day Event, we’re celebrating Pancake Day a week early! Join us for some FREE pancakes and warm up your stomach for the real Pancake Day - there’s no such thing as “too many” pancakes!

Members of the LGBT staff network and LGBT student society will be handing out leaflets, and LGBT merchandise.  We will also be joined by Young Pride in Herts, the NHS University Partnership Equality and Diversity team, Hertfordshire Constabulary (Hate Crime), Herts Police LGBT Network and Herts Aid.

Drag Night

Live drag show from the amazing Drag With No Name! The LGBT+ Society has teamed up with the Equality Office to bring you an evening of drag-related fun! As well as a live performance we’ll also be holding a lip-sync contest, so make sure you’ve been practicing with that hairbrush in your bedroom mirror!
