Raise and Give (RaG) is the fundraising wing of Hertfordshire Students’ Union. Each year, RaG selects three charities to support - one local, one national and one international. Earlier this year, our RaG team shortlisted nine charities. We then asked students to select their three favourites.
Honouring the student vote, RaG's chosen charities for the 2019-20 academic year are:
- Local = Potential Kids
- National = Arts 4 Dementia
- International = Environmental Justice Foundation
What do these charities do?
Based in Hatfield, this non-profit organisation aims to help neurodiverse children, their siblings and their families. It provides children with neurodiverse difficulties to take part in activities and meet other children. Many young people with these difficulties aren’t able to take part in regular activities as it may be too stressful for them. Potential Kids ensures that all activities are done in small groups to reduce anxiety, and in a safe, secure environment. It also gives the families of the child some relief, providing them with a chance to socialise and talk about their experiences.
Arts 4 Dementia
Arts 4 Dementia is a charity providing people with dementia and their carers a break, engaging them, and rekindling connections through art. It’s a place for people with dementia to go and enjoy activities without any judgement. It's an opportunity for sufferers and carers alike to meet - and talk to - others who are experiencing the same troubles.
Environmental Justice Foundation
The EJF focuses on securing a world where natural habitats and environments can sustain, and be sustained by, communities that depend on them for their basic needs and livelihood. The loss of natural habitats also results in the loss of resources and necessities for communities, something that many people don’t realise. They work with communities all over the world, from the cotton fields of Uzbekistan to the coastal waters of West Africa, working towards making our world a better place.
