Trident Media is our very own student media group here at Herts.
Trident Media is run by students for students. There are three strands of media: Print, Radio and TV. Take a look at how you can get involved with Trident Media alongside your studies at UH.
It is Trident Media's goal to reflect the student voice via print, radio and TV. We will achieve this through fun, engaging and relevant content, a strong online and on-campus presence and through the dedication of our members.
Trident Media is located in Hertfordshire Students’ Union, above Hutton Hall. The Media Suite includes the Crush Radio and Crush Underground studios, an editing space for Union TV and a design space for UniVerse and BlueMoon. The suite is accessible 24/7 with an authorised Student Card, which can be activated when a student signs their Trident Media Contract.
But I don't have experience in Media...
The best part about Trident Media is that is it the closest you can get to industry experience on campus, outside your course. It’s a common assumption that to be involved in our outlets, such as radio, you must present a radio show, which is incorrect. Although most of our members get involved to do that, if you’re interested in the technical side, or want to work on sourcing new music and musicians you can work within one of our teams, and even across the outlets with TV and Radio, for example.
We provide hands on experience for all our members and as we have links to various industry professionals students get the opportunity to question those working in the media, and get tips of the trade.
Within the Students’ Union we have dedicated full-time members of staff with professional experience. Sarah Bennett (Student Engagement Coordinator) has spent time as a freelance post production assistant, been a runner for the National Lottery, has previously provided match day coverage for Saracens F.C as well as working on her own Union’s publications and radio station as a student. They’re on hand to help out with training, proofing print publications, website issues, memberships and operational stuff. You can drop into the Students’ Union office anytime to find out more from them.
DID YOU KNOW? Trident Media is named after the de Havilland ‘Trident’ aircraft, and the logo which features a three-pronged trident reflects its three media outlets!
