Campus Costs

Our Priority Campaign 2015/16

Whether it's paying for rent, getting to campus or grabbing some lunch, we know that the cost of living is a priority issue for students at Hertfordshire. We know that every pound spent on extra course costs and on living in one of the country's most expensive regions can all add up.

That's why it's our priority campaign for the year, and why we're taking action to cut costs on and off campus.

What's our end game?

  • Make sure your Students' Union is a value for money service
  • Lobby the University to reduce costs on campus
  • Work with other SUs and NUS to stop national and regional cuts to students

Here's the plan:

Tell us about your extra course costs

Fed up of paying extra for equipment, trips or training as part of your course? Let us know here.

Updates

Write to Welwyn-Hatfield MP, Grant Shapps

What do you think about recent government proposals to change higher education? Could you have survived university without a maintenance grant or NHS bursary? Is there anything the government should be doing to create a better university experience?

We're asking all of our members to write to Grant Shapps, the MP for Welwyn-Hatfield. You can write an email here and we will send on on your behalf.

If you also want to write to your home MP, you can find out who they are here!

What have we done so far?

Alongside NUS and SUs around the country, campaigned against the scrapping of maintenance grants with #CutTheCosts Successfully lobbied the University to cut the cost of the Park & Ride from a proposed £1 to 50p per day
Our on-campus lettings agency continues to save tenants over £100,000 a year by not charging admin fees Offered tiered memberships to Trident Media members, saving money for volunteers who run our student paper, radio and TV
