    Let's be more environmentally friendly

Why are reusable cups and bottles not encouraged? I constantly see students carrying around disposable water bottles. Why not carry a reusable one instead? Surely the various coffee outlets can encourage us to bring in reusable coffee cups? I feel it shames us that we're not doing our bit to cut down on plastic pollution. If high street shops can do it surely a university can do it too! How about putting water refill stations on the Herts Mobile app? There really are no excuses...

1:35am on 8 Dec 18 Agreed. And just having more water fountains around campus is a great start.

2:12am on 9 Dec 18 Hi, I can add some approximate data to this and the suggestion that using a reusable cup gives more of a discount on the price of beverages. At the moment, using your own mug reduces the cost 10p. £1.60 down to £1.50. However, sometimes I bring my own tea bags and milk and get hot water for free. That means ordinarily, for a large cup of tea, £1.50 is for a teabag and some milk. Further than that, on one occasion I had been in the LRC for about 24 hours (deadline life) and my milk had gone bad so I asked to purchase some and was told milk isn't on the till, take that for free as well as the water. So then... whenever people buy a cup of tea, they are spending £1.50 purely on a teabag? I digress, but perhaps a slightly larger discount /for the cup reuse/ adds more incentive.
