The Student Choice Awards provides students with an opportunity to recognise and reward staff at the University who go above and beyond for students. We want to hear all about the academic and professional staff who have had a profound impact on your student experience. Make sure the commitment of a standout staff member doesn't go unnoticed!
Monday 15th June - Friday 31st July
Thank you to the many of you that submitted nominations for this year's Students Choice Awards. We loved reading about the impact members of staff across all pockets of UH have had on the student experience
We were so very excited to launch our new-look Student Choice Awards ready for a ceremony in May, when this year took a completely unexpected turn. The disruption the COVID-19 pandemic caused to the University unfortunately affected the Student Choice Awards too. As a result of the unforeseen circumstances, we had to play around with the format of this year's awards. As a result, they looked a little different to normal. We were sadly no longer able to host an awards ceremony on campus. We decided to do away with categories and criteria for this year only, as well as keeping clear of shortlists and highly-commended nominees. We gave students a 6 week window whereby they could leave a message of gratitude on our page for any member of staff that they felt deserved a special shoutout. All staff members that were nominated have received a Student Choice Award. We would like to congratulate all our fantastic winners!
Earlier this year we asked students to vote on a new name for our teaching awards. Our teaching awards have formerly been known as the Student Teaching Achievement Gold (STAG) Awards and, prior to that, the Student-Led Teaching Awards. Whilst the awards are all about the learning experience of students, we felt the emphasis was too heavily weighted towards teaching. We know that professional staff can have just as big of an impact on your higher education as our brilliant academic staff. All staff, regardless of whether they are academic or professional, are worthy of being rewarded for the difference they make to the lives of our students. We therefore wanted a name that reflected these all-encompassing awards. We put a vote out to students and it turns out your favourite was the same as ours, leaving us with the Student Choice Awards. We promise we'll stick by this name for years to come!
